El Sobrante is a small town 21 miles East from San Francisco, with a deep Native American history dating back from 5000 to 1000 BC. The tribe that settled here were called the Huichin, which were an Ohlone people.
Back in the early 20th century, the residents of this small town were ranchers. Today, El Sobrante has changed to a semi-rural community with just under 15,000 residents.
Behind the town’s library, runs the San Pablo Creek, where you will find a now-buried shell mound left by the Huichin. Also, there are many parks within El Sobrante.
